(From left to right: Byodoin Temple, Jodo-in Temple, Saisho-in Temple)

Byodoin Temple is the most famous temple in Uji City, which is known for its renowned green tea. It’s registered as an UNESCO World Heritage site, and is a must-visit on any trip to Kyoto. Many Japanese people don’t know that there’s even a functioning replica of this temple in Hawaii!

Inside the temple precinct, there are three places you can collect goshuin. The first is on the left side of the main temple building (the red Phoenix Hall) in a clearly marked booth for goshuin. This is for the first goshuin above, Byodoin Temple.

The second goshuin is located in a large wooden temple behind the Phoenix Hall, called Jodo-in Temple.

Heading back to the main entrance, descend the stairs and find Saisho-in Temple on your left for the final goshuin.
